Who is Bob Dylan?
With his signature vocals and complex lyrics, Minnesota singer-songwriter, Bob Dylan isn’t just a music legend, he’s also become one of the most important individuals in modern culture. With decades worth of songs and albums, one could spend a whole year listening to and learning about him.
Q.1.) Which song of Bob Dylan has made an impact on you? Why? Can you find a song similar to the same theme in other language?
I would like to say that Bob’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ made an impact on me.Here is the lyrics of that song.
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
And how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
And how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
“Blowin’ In The Wind” was released in 1963 as the first single off his second studio album ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’. The song speaks about humanity, war and peace and other ambiguous questions that people refuse to answer. Bob Dylan claims that the answers are already there.
It creates an impact on me beacuse, the lyrics, and the monotonous inflection of Bob Dylan's voice all create a somber feeling in me that makes me think. He is discussing war and the aspects of it people ignore because it is too disturbing and they do not want to deal with it. There is no honest answer to the questions he is asking because no one can be the ultimate judge, therefore, the answers are "blowin' in the wind."I did not realize that the song was about war until the second verse when he sang,
"yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist,
before they're allowed to be free?"
"how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows,
that too many people have died?"
I found the similar poem in hindi.
Who is Robert Frost?
Robert Frost was a traditional American poet in an age of experimental art. He used New England expressions, characters, and settings, recalling the roots of American culture, to get at the common experience of all.
2.) Which poem of Robert Frost has made an impact on you? Why?
I like this poem because it talks about positivity in spite of being surrounded by a negative situation. The night is dark, silent and it's the coldest day of the year. It is symbolic to the most grieving state of a human. He is lost in the darkness of loneliness. But still he gathers hope and courage to move on. As he has many responsibilities to fulfil before he will have his infinite sleep.
This poem shows how to be optimistic even if everything's not well. Life is not meant to be ended in a pessimistic way. There are still “miles to go…” toward happiness. So what makes it a must-read poem is the mystery of the other universe in which the poem dwells besides the snowy woods, and the closure of the formalism.
